This is a series I did on the Cypripedium orchid family. They are fully hardy in Perthshire as long as you give them a sheltered location in good soil. In addition they are woodland plants so benefit from shading in the hot summer sun. They flower from late spring though it takes them a few years to get established in the garden. Well worth the wait!

They are aptly named ‘Lady Slipper Orchids’ and the best place to see them in flower is at Branklyn Garden, Perth. At one time they were native orchids in the UK but due to over-collection from the wild they were nearly made extinct.
