With summer flowering plants each week is an endless supply of blooms in the garden. It's the time of year when the sun can be too strong and harsh for taking photos. There are no excuses ...the weeding has to be done while photography has to wait until later on in the day.


What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade. ~ Gertrude Jekyll

Long Summer Days

Along with the herbaceous plants and roses I also grow some annuals. By way of example here are my tips on planted containers and hanging baskets. Follow these tips and you'll have the best looking annuals in your neighbourhood.

 

Depending on where you live Meconopisis blue poppies can either be in flower in the late spring plant or early summer.  Consequently I've placed them in the early summer category. My photos of Blue Meconopsis poppies are from Branklyn Garden in Perth.

Endless Summer Blooms

Have you ever heard of Deinanthe caerulea Blue wonder?  It's quite a rare plant and hardy in my garden. However it will never win any prizes for having eye catching blooms.  In other words it's understated. Though it will grab the attention of your garden visitors and be a bit of a 'talking piece'.

 

 

There's a new naturalism trend in with garden planting design. In this post I ponder whether to allow Turnips to grow as flowers in the garden. Or even allow some Cow Parsley into the borders!
